Tube Feeding
Enteral feeding in children is a method of providing nutrition directly to the stomach or intestines through a tube, typically used when a child cannot eat enough by mouth due to medical conditions. Reasons for enteral feeding may include severe feeding difficulties, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological issues, or recovery from surgery.
Signs that a child may need enteral feeding include poor growth, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, or inability to meet nutritional needs through oral intake. Without adequate nutrition, children may experience delays in growth and development, weakened immune function, and increased susceptibility to illness.
Our dietitians play an important role in managing enteral feeding by assessing the child’s nutritional needs and developing a tailored feeding plan. They can determine the appropriate formula and feeding schedule, monitor growth and tolerance, and make adjustments as needed. Additionally, dietitians provide education and support for families to ensure effective feeding practices at home. With our expertise, a dietitian can help ensure that enterally fed children receive the nutrition they need to thrive.
