Disability
Disability in children can encompass a wide range of physical, intellectual, and developmental challenges that affect their daily functioning and overall well-being.
Children with disabilities may experience a poor diet due to various factors, such as difficulties with feeding, sensory aversions to certain textures or flavours, limited mobility that affects food preparation, or reliance on caregivers for meals. These challenges can lead to inadequate nutrient intake, which may result in growth issues, weakened immune function, and overall health concerns.
Our dietitians can play an essential role in supporting children with disabilities by assessing their nutritional needs and developing tailored dietary interventions that address specific dietary restrictions or requirements. We can help manage issues such as feeding difficulties, weight management, or nutrient deficiencies often associated with certain disabilities. By providing education and resources for carers, dietitians can promote healthy eating habits and improve overall nutrition, which is crucial for growth, development, and quality of life. With the right support, children with disabilities can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
